There is a still point which is referred to in healing. This is a moment of complete stillness, or some people call it a “Moment of Bliss”. Some people may have never experienced this moment or point of stillness or even know what it is. Some people may have experienced this moment of complete stillness and not recognise what it is, or having found it once, may find it difficult to access it or recreate it again.
There is a very simple exercise you can perform which may help you to experience this still point or moment of complete stillness using healing tuning forks. You can do this by holding two tuning forks - one at each ear. It is important that the tuning forks you choose are harmonically related to each other and tuned to perfect fifths. Perfect fifths for example would be to use one tuning fork in the key of ‘A’ and another tuning fork in the key of ‘D’. Another combination you could use which are also perfect fifths would be; G+C, C+F, B+E.
Perfect fifths tuning forks work well together to create perfect harmony. There is a particular frequency or key which each note creates: ‘A’ creates a frequency of 440 Hz. In other words, when the note ‘A’ is created by striking the ‘A’ tuning fork against your knee or a hard rubber ball, this creates a sound wave frequency which vibrates at 440 times per second. ‘D’ creates 587.33 Hz or 587.33 times per second.
Hold the ‘A’ tuning fork by the shaft (at the bottom of the ‘Y’) and strike one of the tuning fork shafts against your knee or a hard rubber ball. This creates the ‘A’ note. Hold it close to one ear. Now strike and hold the other tuning fork which creates the ‘D’ note and hold this close to the other ear. You are now creating a perfect harmonious balance of musical notes between your two ears. Now that you know how to do this, strike one tuning fork and then quickly strike the other tuning fork on your knee or a hard rubber ball and hold the two tuning forks close to your two ears at the same time.
To experience the still point it would be best that both tuning forks be vibrating and should sound at about the same volume at each ear. Now close your eyes so that you can concentrate and focus your attention fully on these two tuning forks vibrating each side of your head close to each ear. Continue listening to these two tuning forks, and try to hold them in a position that allows each tuning fork to be the same volume at each ear as you begin listening.
Now: To Experience Total Silence
Now allow these notes to continue sounding for at least 60 seconds. Each tuning fork will eventually stop vibrating and no longer create any sound. Continue to hold a tuning fork to each ear. Focus your attention on these fading notes, listening in a very relaxed manner with all your attention on trying to hear these almost faint sounds as the sounds from the two tuning forks fade to silence.
When the notes have completely faded into silence you may notice that there is a quietness or stillness now in your head. You may now experience a sense of complete stillness. This is not a sleep-like state. This is very much the opposite. This is a state of complete intense stillness as you focus on the silence which is now palpable yet serene, tranquil and very calm.
You have now connected to a moment of stillness. This is the point of stillness that so many people talk about and write about in so many books. This is that point of stillness and bliss that many people describe having reached and sometimes only connecting with when they are in a deep meditative state. Until you actually experience it for yourself it is almost impossible to either describe or understand. You’ve got to experience it to believe it.
Incidentally the ‘A’ note when played on any string instrument such as a guitar, violin, piano and so on will also create these waves of 440Hz and the note ‘D’ on any string instrument will vibrate at 587.33 Hz. So for instance if you have a musical stringed instrument such as a guitar or a piano, plucking or playing the individual strings will create these perfect fifth notes. If you so wished you could experiment yourself by playing A+D, G+C, C+F, B+E, or any two notes that are perfect fifths apart and you can enjoy listening to the harmony they create together.
The ideal listening experience is using two tuning forks in stereo as described above.
If you have any hearing difficulty
If you have any hearing difficulties, total or partial hearing loss you may experience the Power of Silence by creating the still point using one tuning fork. Strike it against your knee or a hard surface preferably a hard rubber surface to make the tuning fork vibrate and create a sound.
Hold this tuning fork close to whichever ear has the most hearing. Allow the tuning fork to continue sounding for at least 60 seconds. Eventually it will stop vibrating and the sound will completely fade away. When the sound has completely faded into silence you may notice that there is a quietness or stillness now in your head. You may now experience a sense of complete stillness.
For the benefit of those who may not have adequate hearing in either ear, after striking the tuning fork and whilst it is vibrating, hold the leg or base shaft of the tuning fork gently against the mastoid bone behind your ear. In this way the vibrations and sound of the tuning fork may be felt at this location rather than being heard. Again focus your attention on the vibrations of the tuning fork as it continues to vibrate and eventually stops completely. Try to focus on this peaceful moment for a few minutes.
