Sally is one of our German shepherds
Sally is one of our German shepherds and she has one of the strangest habits I have ever witnessed. Sally came into our lives nearly seven years ago as a companion for our male dog Radar. She was purchased from a person who had many hunting dogs. Because she would not join in when the other dogs went hunting, she was left behind and was a bit neglected.
I will take the weakest dog in a pack
I have found in the past that when given a choice I would be more attracted towards taking the weakest dog in a pack or the one least nourished and nurse them back to better health.
For the first few weeks Sally lay around a lot and was very quiet and timid and not that interested in engaging with Radar who was boisterous, very active and would choose to play with a ball anytime instead of a bone.

These two dogs were a great match for each other
It turned out that these two dogs were a great match for each other, and were very compatible, because as the weeks and months went by, Radar calmed down a lot obviously influenced by Sally’s laid-back approach. Sally’s whole personality changed. She became quite lively, thoroughly enjoying playing with Radar and absolutely loved coming on our daily walks.
As I mentioned she has a strange habit of running around behind me when I approach her. At first, I found this quite strange and confusing. If I called her from a distance, she would come running and then go behind me.
I spoke with a dog expert who explained to me that obviously Sally had been trained to walk behind a person and not in front or to the side.

It was I who had to change - not Sally
Once I got used to this there was no problem. It was I who had to change and not Sally.
My wife and I are both therapists working at our healing centre here in Ireland. we use bio-energy therapy as one of our many healing therapies, and as you would expect our dogs get their fair share of bio-energy therapy on a regular basis. This form of alternative therapy has certainly been of great help towards helping these two dogs become more compatible, calming Radar down from his boisterous ways and has in no small way helped Sally to become the amazing, beautiful dog she has become.
