Our Cat Meany and Her Exploits with a Crow
We have a number of cats around our house but my favourite pet is Meany. We called her Meany because when she was very young, she would run to her bowl and take out the nicest piece of food and run underneath the table and eat by herself. She grew up quite independent and didn’t mix well with other cats.
She was always up to mischief and very playful, but when it came to food she was not very sharing.
One day I was looking out the window and saw that a very persistent crow was attempting to steal Meany’s food from her dish. Each time the crow would land, Meany would chase him away.

I’ve learned a thing or two about crows
But I’ve learned a thing or two about these crows. For one thing they are very intelligent and can analyse a situation and think of alternative ways of achieving their goal. They are also very persistent.
As I continued to watch this scenario between Meany and this crow, the crow came up with a plan. The crow landed a few times close to the food bowl and Meany would chase it away. The crow got more courageous and started landing close to the pole of the clothesline nearby.
Meany ran after the crow. Then the crow landed on top of the clothesline and began caulking loudly which annoyed Meany. Meany then climbed up the pole to the top and as she did the crow moved out onto the clothesline about six feet from the pole and continued to tease Meany by flapping its wings and caulking loudly.

Meany was left stranded up high on the clothesline
Could you believe it, Meany started walking out along the top of the clothesline. Then the crow swooped down and feasted on the food in Meany’s dish, as Meany was left stranded up high on the clothesline.
