Relationships can vary from being; Healthy, Happy and Harmonious to being; Unhealthy, Controlling, Painful, Hurtful, Dysfunctional, Unbearable, Abusive or sometimes barely functional.
One of the most important aspects of any relationship is COMPATABILITY.
There can be different levels of compatibility:
In this story you are being invited to consider a relationship as being compared to a pair of shoes and you are being asked to ascertain how comfortable these shoes are to wear. In other words, how comfortable is your relationship?
Would you put on a brand-new pair of shoes, that were uncomfortable and then walk fifty miles in them? You could experience a lot of unnecessary pain if you did. In other words, would you enter into a long-term relationship with another person in the full knowledge that you were not comfortable in their company?

Are you being inhibited in your relationship?
Would you wear shoes that were too tight, inhibiting your circulation and impeding your freedom or movement? In other words, are you being inhibited in any way in your relationship? A relationship can also be compared to shoes that don’t give adequate support, where one or both persons may feel a lack of support within the relationship.
Were these particular shoes unsuitable the first time you fitted them on, in other words, did you feel the relationship was unsuitable even on that first date?
Did you continue to wear these shoes regardless of the number of times you felt hurt and let down? This could be what happened in your relationship? Were there times when you felt let down by your partner?
What has kept you in this relationship until now? Was it fear? Was it fear of change? Was it fear of being alone? Was it conditioning? Was it the hope that things would somehow improve as time went by.
Did you really believe these shoes would adapt enough to suit your particular feet? In other words, did you believe that this person and this relationship would adapt enough to suit your particular needs?
