There are amazing sound healing vibrations that emanate from instruments such as Tibetan singing bowls, crystal quartz bowls, tuning forks and gongs. I never realised this until I attended a sound healing session. I loved music but when I was in a crowd of people I couldn’t differentiate between all the different sounds and noises I was hearing. I couldn’t even hear the music clearly on my cd player which I loved to listen to and relax to.
I had some learning difficulties from the time I was very young. I felt I missed out on a lot of my schooling because my hearing difficulty was only discovered when I was around nine years old. The teachers would lose their patience with me and accuse me of not listening or paying attention. I realised years later that I didn’t actually hear properly what the teachers were saying.
I was coping with life and my work as an accountant’s assistant but I always felt there was something else out there that I could enjoy or that would help me. I never heard of sound as a vibration or of the resonance of sound until I attended a sound healing evening when my husband and I were away on holidays. As the sound healer played the crystal bowls that were lined up on the floor I could feel the vibrations up through my feet and throughout my entire body.
He then played a number of different sized Tibetan singing bowls, followed by thirty minutes of what he described as a sound bath using two large gongs as all the attendees lay on mats on the floor. The peace and harmony that I was experiencing from it was awesome as I could feel the vibrations through my back and my body.
This was transformational for me as I realised I wasn’t just listening to the sound but I was feeling the vibrations of the sound as well. The last thing that he used was a vibroacoustic sound healing table. I was allowed to lie on this for approximately twenty minutes. As I was lying on the table I felt an incredible sense of inner healing. I felt the waves of sound resonating up and down through the table creating subtle vibrations through my body.
It was like the beginning of a new journey for me and I wondered how I could continue with this lovely inner healing I was feeling from sound vibrations. It was like I had discovered a new me, a new way of being and a way I could really enjoy sound and music.
When we returned home from holidays my husband converted a therapy table and made me a vibroacoustic sound healing table which I now use for my own self healing and for relaxation a few times each week. I wanted to learn more about sound in general so I purchased some singing bowls and completed the online sound healing course which has been a major turning point in my life.
